TS Galaxy recorded their fourth consecutive win in the DStv Premiership this week, following a pragmatic 1-0 win over SuperSport United at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Saturday night.

Mpho Mvelase managed to score the only goal of the game soon after the halftime break, which in turn, extended SuperSport United’s winless streak to seven games in the league.

SuperSport held most of the ball during the opening exchanges of the match while TS Galaxy were looking for the opportune time to catch Gavin Hunt’s side on the break. In looking to take the game to SSU, Galaxy often went direct with Samir Nurkovic being the point of reference in attack.

The Rockets were put under immense pressure midway through the first-half as SuperSport continued to probe en-route to the Galaxy half. Grant Margeman and Shandre Campbell were the creators-in-chief for their side and often had the away side back peddling.

Lehlohonolo Mojela came close to opening the scoring in the 35th minute after finding himself in an inviting position inside the SuperSport box. With his shot deflected out wide for a corner, SuperSport managed to contain the away side’s attacking move from the set-piece opportunity.

Nevertheless, with neither side able to make the most of their attacking advancements, the ref called time on the first-half with the score tied at 0-0.

Following a rapid start to the second-half, Mvelase broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute after getting on the end of a slick passing move on the edge of the SSU area. As Sphiwe Mahlangu made his way down the right-hand flank, the attacker picked out Mvelase with an accurate pass across the box before guiding the ball home from close range.

While heavy rain engulfed the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, SuperSport were proactive in their search for an opener around the 70th minute mark. The Rockets, however, proved to be a tough nut to crack throughout the encounter.

The Rockets kicked into game-management mode with around 10 minutes left on the clock as Matsatsantsa went on the attack at every opportunity. Nevertheless, it was not to be for Hunt and company as Galaxy came away with a slender 1-0 win in Pretoria.
